The theme for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge is the sense of touch. This week I chose a photo of a Velvet Queen Sunflower stalk. The flowers stalk is large, thick and strong and has bristles on it. To the eye, the stalk may look soft and fuzzy, but to the touch, it is pokey and coarse. The stalk feels hard as rock when you touch it, but as soon as you cut into it it is like paper. The sunflower is durable but in harsh conditions can be as fragile as glass.
The Velvet Queen Sunflower has the darkest color, with dark crimson, yellow and orange petals. And can grow up to 8 feet tall. Its gorgeous, vibrant and really sticks out in the garden. Here are a few pictures of the petals.
